We do like ‘Architectural’ lettering examples, which we find are often a wonderful source of inspiration for future designs. This particular example was photographed by Mike Davies, letter carver and furniture restorer. This wonderful example of stonemason’s letter carving is bound to find its way as inspiration for our future design programme at some point.

Here’s the third of Fred Stevens’ inspirational shots, again showing the craftsmanship and attention to detail that used to be brought to everything. This is the stock of a Boer War era rifle, and utilitarian (and even warlike) nature of the object withstanding we cannot help but admire the excellently hand carved lettering. We particularly admire that Blackletter capital ‘P’…

We thought people might enjoy this rather inspirational photograph, kindly forwarded by regular reader Fred Stevens. It shows some most excellent stonemason’s lettering and was taken in Bideford in Devon. It is remarkable to view the care and careful thought that used to be put into work like this. We particularly like the capital ‘M’ in ‘Municipal’. Fred has sent us a couple of other similarly inspirational photos, which we shall post later in the week.
