In the Spirit of 1904


Regular readers might remember our pointing out of Phil Baines’ ‘Public Lettering – A Walk in Central London‘ site.  One of the Buildings illustrated therein is the Coliseum Theatre, built in 1904 and displaying it’s name in rather appealing and distinctive lettering:

The Coliseo Typeface is a grand exercise in extrapolation from this small specimen of architectural lettering.  We find the results of this particularly pleasing.  Here are a few mildly amusing examples of Coliseo in action:
