Typographic Charm

The London Passenger Transport Board‘s publicity material was always known for it’s excellence in design and in typography.  As these two examples show, this excellence seems to trace back to it’s predecessor organisations.

Firstly, we have a rather charming poster advertising a somewhat dated idea…a ‘Smoking Concert’  for the employees of the North Metropolitan Tramways Company.  A wonderful fusion of Roman, Blackletter and other decorative elements that are somehow all joyfully in harmony:

Secondly, we have a post Great War Bank Holiday announcement, full of the joy of the first summer of peace, and lettered in a beautifully legible medieval Roman face.
