Greater Albion always releases a Black letter each year, hopefully well before the Christmas seas (which we seem to have managed this year – September). There is something about this year’s project which suggests a caste portcullis to us. Why not visit ye olde world in your next designer project?
We presented a a short preview of Wroxeter Regular (we did toy briefly with calling that Wroxeter Wregular but perhaps that’s a joke to far) last week. This family of typefaces, four of them in fact, is nearing readiness for dispatch to our resellers, along with a selection of Christmas novelties and Fleurons (more of which anon), so we thought we’d present a more substantial sampling of the whole family.
Here, as promised, is a sampling of our new Baldione typeface in use. This collection of four pieces of design takes a varying range of themes…chocolate (as ever), book covers (we thoroughly recommend the works of Patrick O’Brian), cooking ingredients (in Italian, no less) and a rather glamorous aspect of going on holiday…
Bolton Commercial revives and updates one of Greater Albion’s designer’s earliest typeface families, Bolton, which was recently used on the credits of a popular UK television series. The family consists of five faces- Regular and Obliqued, Blocked, Embossed and Engraved. All have a late Victorian/Edwardian feel and are ideal for posters, signage, Book covers…and of course television credits! Bolton Commercial combines the virtues of flair, fun and legibility.
Tudor Perpendicular is Greater Albion’s seasonal Black letter release (not that we rule out the possibility of non-seasonal ones…) for 2012. As the name suggests, it is a design which emphasises, and yes, exaggerates for effect, the perpendicular up and down nature of Black Letter typefaces. There’s no particular historical basis for this one – straight out of our own minds, just as a lot of Black letter ‘revivals’ have been over the years. Come and visit ‘Ye Olde‘ world today…
